When downtown bar-owner Ted Challenger closed his iconic Main Street Bistro last year, many wondered what could possibly replace the decades-old club. Enter Amsterdam Lounge and its adjacent 21 & Cup adult coffee bar.

With a more modern, sophisticated feel, the space at 609 W. Main St. is Challenger’s offering to the Gen X crowd that once made Main Street Bistro its weekend capitol.

As Challenger states in the video below: “There is no other bar that is better designed and built for socializing (than Amsterdam Bar). It’s really about the quality of the conversation, the quality of the experience.”

Aside from the high-end cocktails, Amsterdam Lounge serves appetizers, steak salad, and its signature burger. There is also a video game arcade to round out the space.

21 & Cup is like no other coffee shop in the Treasure Valley. Instead of laptops at every table, groups are chatting while they enjoy espresso spiked with everything from Frangelico to Kahlua, Jameson to Tuaca. It’s an idea that Challenger has had for quite a while. His excitement at this vision come-to-life is palpable in the above video when he speaks about 21 & Cup, “Coffee is dynamic. You can do so much with coffee, whether it’s in the morning or whether it’s at 2 a.m. with an espresso martini. And there are so many different, creative ways to express yourself with coffee, just like the American cocktail.”

At a recent event, 21 & Cup set up a $5 Bloody Mary bar and served bagels from Blue Sky. Drink specials were offered and the atmosphere was intimate, with plenty of space to hold different discussions. Think you would like to hold your next meet-up here? Call (208) 345-9515 or send an email.
