When you see the unique, neon sign of Lunchbox Wax Salon in downtown Boise, you may not realize that you’re looking at a nationwide phenomenon.

When Debi Lane launched the salon dedicated solely to waxing in 2010, she had only two employees and worked at the salon part-time, according to an interview in the Idaho Statesman.

The original location on the second floor of the Perrault-Fritchman building in downtown made it difficult to find Lunchbox Wax Salon. But Lane installed an eye-catching, edgy neon sign of a female figure holding a lunchbox, a wink at the services offered inside.

With the business in its current location, on Idaho Street between 8th Street and 9th Street, Lunchbox has transformed into a Boise mainstay. It’s not only women who visit the salon to remove unwanted hair, men make up a part of the clientele as well.

For those who find themselves constantly visiting Lunchbox, there’s a perks system that awards points for every dollar spent. The Friends with Benefits program is ideal for those who want to keep certain areas waxed consistently.

Lunchbox has thrived in the Treasure Valley, now with an additional location in Meridian. But the business has continued to spread across the United States.

Not only can you find the iconic sign in Twin Falls and Sun Valley, but there’s franchises in Arizona (3), California (8), Colorado (1), Florida (3), Massachusetts (1), New Jersey (2), Nevada (1), Oregon (2), and Utah (3).

You may walk into Lunchbox with unwanted hair on your bikini line or upper lip, but you’ll leave with smooth skin and having supported a local business.

Lane started in the salon business when she opened the now defunct TRU salon in Sun Valley. The recession hit the salon hard, but Lane noticed that hair removal was still in high demand.

Here are Thinking Boise Real Estate, we love supporting our local business owners. Lunchbox Wax Salon is expanding to be so much more than the waxing salon around the corner, and we can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
