The eclipse may be over, but that doesn't mean you should take your eyes from the sky. Now it's time for the Boise skyline to be a rainbow of colors for the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic from Wednesday, August 30th, to Sunday, September 3rd.
The festival's roots go back to 1991 when the first balloon classic was held as part of the Boise River Festival. The free event is an annual tradition in the Treasure Valley, where families and friends gather together to view beautiful balloons take to the sky.
Kids' Day on Wednesday
On Wednesday, the festivities kick off at 7:15am with "Kids' Day." Attendees will find about 20 balloons in the park, and kids will have the chance to meet the pilots, take photos, and take a short ride "on float."
No matter where you are, keep an eye on the sky Thursday morning for the first official launch of the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic. Nearly 30 balloons are expected to take to the sky for the 123rd launch from Ann Morrison Park.
Nite Glow Spectacular on Friday
The most popular event of the classic happens on Friday. Nite Glow Spectacular is an amazing, family-friendly event where Idahoans gather for live music and inflation demonstrations, followed by 25 balloons lighting up the night.
There are three fun balloons that you'll want to view. “Tic Toc,” presented by St Luke’s, is one of the newest creations from Scott Spencer’s “Lighter Than Air America Special Shapes.”
“Speedy” is another creation from Scott Spencer and will make its first appearance at the Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic. And get in the spirit for fall with Pat Prothro's delightful jack-o-lantern: "Ms. Autumn."
Spirit of Boise Weekend Activities
On Saturday, the Governor’s Cup Competition takes off! You won't want to miss the "Great Launch" on Sunday when the classic will once again attempt to have all the balloons take to the sky in under a minute for the perfect photo op.
This is one tradition you don't want to miss!
