Ever wander around Kathryn Albertson Park? Ever wonder about its namesake?
Born in Boise in 1908, Kathryn McCurry was an Idaho girl through and through, attending Boise schools and then College of Idaho in Caldwell. She met Joe Albertson in chemistry class after spilling a solution on her leg and, to the benefit of all of Idaho, they fell in love and started a grocery chain that grew into the Albertsons empire as we know it.
Always charitable, the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation was started in 1966 as a way to help Idahoans get the educational support they needed. After Joe’s death in 1993, Kathryn remained the Director Emeritus until her death in 2002, always advocating for the success of Idaho’s citizens. Her park opened in 1989 and has been a home for wildlife and family activities ever since.
