Family Run Hyde Perk Coffee House Caffeinates North End
Hyde Park's newest business, Hyde Perk Coffee House, is a family business.
Crystal Clark might be the one with 13 years of coffee shop experience, but she owns the place with her husband, her parents and her brother. The rest of the family can be found there too—working or hanging out. Age isn’t a boundary; the youngest generation ranges from six weeks to five years old and Hyde Perk Coffee House is their second home.
Crystal’s sister Peyton also works at Hyde Perk, and it’s obvious that they like being together, as they call each other over to "ooh" and "ahh" over the photos a patron shows them. The familiarity shows in every interaction.
Peyton laughs at everyone’s response to just how much family is involved, “People always tell us we’re crazy for working together, but this is what we do!”
Crazy or not, when the patriarch of the clan moved to Boise last year for work, the rest followed. Crystal decided to use her years in the coffee industry to start a business, and everyone pitched in to help. The old Hyde Park bookstore location at 1507 N. 13th St. to give Northenders (and anyone else spending time in the neighborhood) a place to get caffeinated and socialize.
In homage to the former bookstore, the shelves have been repurposed as wall décor. Something about the tie-in makes the place feels like it’s been there forever, instead of a few months. Regulars are already called by name. Smiles are easily passed on, whether it’s 5:30am or 5:30pm. Neighborhood kids already know where they are allowed to play and color.
In an area already overflowing with treats, Hyde Perk Coffee House fits right in.
